What's All This About Reading Essays in Engineering, Science, and Technology?
  • Your broad secondary education is what got you into college...
  • ...but you've probably stopped reading outside of class work.
  • But reading is one of the best ways to learn how to write better,
  • and communication skills are among the most important skills sought by employers.
  • Your technical education is only one part of your overall education,
  • and your future technical career will be only one part of your overall life.
  • Essays provide a concise introduction to many topics in engineering, science, and technology while simultaneously getting you to read more, think more, and make you more aware of the interrelationships between the technical and the non-technical.
For a good place to start, try Samuel Florman (1968) Engineering and the Liberal Arts or any of the many essays and books of the authors introduced in this seminar.
