PARAMCIS plugin development

California ATMS Testbed at UC Irvine and and CCIT at UC Berkeley have developed a set of PARAMICS plugins in order to

  1. better model traffic condition in California and the US, and
  2. enhance the capabilities of PARAMICS for modelling and evaluating ITS

The following paper explains our practices on the development of the capability-enhanced PARAMICS simulation environment through API programming.

The following is a list of our plugins and their documentations (only Caltrans, UCI and some UCB users can use these plugins):

Quadstone license number Plugin Developer Plugin Description Example network Documentation
101 Actuated signal

Henry Liu, Lianyu Chu

Full-actuated signal control emulator. Download
Download
102 Multiple actuated signal plan Henry Liu An Support to have multiple timing plans for an actuated signal control. Download Download
103 Actuated signal coordination Henry Liu Emulate actuated signal coordination of type 170 traffic controller Download Download
104 Detector data aggregator Lianyu Chu, Henry Liu Loop detector data aggregation based on a certain aggregation cycle. Download Download
105 Ramp metering control Lianyu Chu Pre-timed ramp metering control based on a series of fixed-time metering plans. Download Download
106 On-ramp queue override control Lianyu Chu A on-ramp queue override control logic based on aggregated loop detector data. Download Download
107 Alinea ramp metering control Lianyu Chu A local traffic responsive ramp metering control developed by Markos Papageorgiou. Download Download
108 Bottleneck ramp metering control Lianyu Chu A local traffic responsive ramp metering control used in the Washington State. Download Download
109 SWARM ramp metering control Lianyu Chu A system-wide adaptive ramp metering control used in Los Angeles county. Download Download
110 Freeway MOE Lianyu Chu Collect travel time and speed data along freeways and ramps. Another application of the plugin is to collect data of probe vehicles. Download Download
111 TOS ramp metering control Lianyu Chu Ramp metering control used in Bay Area. Download
112 Link choice Lianyu Chu Assign vehicles to connected downstream links based on pre-determined percentages. One application is make HOV vehicles on the ramp to select HOV bypass lane when HOV lane and metered lanes for SOVs are modeled as two separate links. Download
113 Vehicle Lane Control Lianyu Chu Restricting some vehicles to use specific lanes. One application is to restrict trucks to use two righmost lanes instead of using all mainline lanes. Download
114 SATMS ramp metering contorl Jeff Ban, Lianyu Chu Ramp metering control used in Orange County and Los Angeles counties. Download Download

These plugins can be downloaded through Orange County Micro-simulation Data Library. The data library only allows registered users to upload and download data and plugins. If you would like access to this service, you must first become a registered user. To do so, you will need to fill out an application form online to submit a registration request. Once submitted, we will review your information to determine whether you have reasonable authority to use the site. If you do, we will then approve your registration, notifying you of your approval by email.
