round win over Gloria Pizzichini at the 1998 Australian Open. Best performances
include wins over Sabine Hack, Petra Schwartz, Wiltrud Probst, Zilke Meier,
Laura Golarsa, Maria Antonio Sanchez, Maggie Maleeva (all of whom had been in the top 40

Been the No. 1 player of India in Fed cup for the past 5 years.
India has qualified to play in the Group 1 qualifying in the Asian zone
to be held next year. Won all 4 gold medals at the South Asian Federation
games 1995 in the team event, individual singles, doubles and mixed
doubles events. Been a member of World Youth Cup as a junior representing
India in 1991 and '92. Won bronze medal in Mixed doubles at the Asian Games
XIII, Bangkok, Dec '98 (with Mahesh Bhupathi).
As A Junior
Best ranking has been 35 in singles and 26 in doubles. Won ITF girls
singles titles in Thailand '93, India '93, Bangladesh '93 and Sri Lanka
'93. Member of ITF Asian squad touring Europe in 1994.
Personal
Started tennis at the age of 6, coached by father Vaidyanathan, lawyer
by profession. Father was a first class cricketer of repute. Belongs to
a sporting family of pedigree tennis players of international fame. Currently
living and training in Sarasota, Florida. Enjoys music, reading, and any
outdoor sport.
